Week 2 Report and Inter-Town

Lots of close 2-2 results this week in the league before we play the first cup round next week. Please remember that cup games are handicapped and determined solely on aggregate so don’t concede! Shrewsbury are again entering a side in the inter-town championship, please make contact as soon as possible if you’d like to be considered for the team by captain Roger Davies.

DIVISION ONE

Beaconsfield A 2, Beaconsfield C 2

Great to see the return of top cueist Tony Watkins, but Ashley Lewis got the upper hand 56-36.  Mike Barnsley then drew the A team level, winning 51-30 over Steve Farmer.  A very tight third frame went to Jon Hedger 49-38 against Steve Adams.  On last Dave Davies recorded the biggest win of the night, beating Mike Ryder 77-17.

Meole Brace A 3, Meole Brace F 1

Ross Corfield was back on form this week, knocking in a 40 break on the way to beating Andy Bowers 102-8.  Then Ross Turner won a hard fought frame from Andy Sparkes 45-37.  In the third Steve Switonski did well to pip Kelvin Li 52-39, before Tony Bennett received a walkover.

Meole Brace C 2, Preston Brockhurst A 2

In the first Ross O’Callaghan beat Pip Higgins 72-30 helped by his 22 break.  Mike Jones then won a low scoring scrap 36-34 from Arnie Mulligan.  Then the Brock turned things round, Adrian Trowsdale beating Danny Sumner 59-28 before Glyn Buckley did the same to Gary Prosser 55-13.

Harlescott A 2, Beaconsfield B 2

Games shared at Harlescott, Rob Jones winning the first for the visitors 49-20 from Roger Davies.  In the clash of the captains yours truly competed in the safety but Billy Lanham did all the potting to win easily 64-14.  The third swung back and forth, Adrian Rowe forging ahead only for Simon Richards to knock in a 22 to take the lead into the colours.  Ade then potted an outstanding green and cleared to the pink to win 58-50.  In the last both players showed each other utmost respect and at one point a rerack seemed likely.  But Mike Beasley got his arm going, dragging a delicate black into the middle knowing he’d leave Callum Wraight right in if he missed.  With a 29 break Mike took it 72-21.

DIVISION TWO

Condover A 2, Harlescott B 2

The first frame went to Condover’s Paul Rumbold, who beat Ian Evans 60-26.  Charlie Hughes then made it 2-0 by outscoring Alex Evans 72-26.  Back came Harlescott, Dave Ferriday pipping Syd Longland 59-56 before Mark Mason beat Rhys Williams 47-24.

Meole Brace D 2, Meole Brace H 2

Spoils were shared in this local derby, Kev Ebrey just beating Steve Memmott 48-40 and Jordan Phillips a 63-46 winner over Alex Nutall.  Paul Meredith got the better of Mike Hughes 43-15 before Martin Cane won at the back 56-44 against Dan Morris.

Meole Brace B 4, Unison F 0

Very unfortunately Unison didn’t realise that this match was to be played on the Tuesday night.  Please be sure to check the fixtures carefully, especially as we head into the cup next week, as there are a few sides who play their home games on Tuesdays.

Beaconsfield D 4, Condover B 0

The D team have certainly settled into their new home well, with their second full house and already setting the early pace.  Alan Childs beat Terry Burgess 42-28, then Russell Worrall won 55-41 against Bill Duckett.  Captain Shane Powell then had a convincing 66-12 score over Dave Francis before Roger Moore wrapped it up beating Vic Ingram 72-47.
