Well done to the Shrewsbury team who defeated Telford A 4-3 in a thrilling black ball finish to their Inter Town clash. The winners for Shrewsbury were Billy Lanham, Callum Wraight, Craig Crossley and Tom Hancher who once again held his nerve to win the decider. Our other players were Dave Berry, Ross Corfield and Mike Beasley. The highest break of the evening was a 64 from Telford’s Tom Maxfield against Ross. Well played all!
A situation did arise which we could perhaps all benefit from regarding the free ball rule. This video illustrates well some of the less common scenarios that may occasionally crop up and how to apply the rules correctly:
DIVISION ONE
Wem Cons A 2, Meole Brace C 2
Games shared at Wem despite the hosts trailing 2-0. Ross O’Callaghan took the opener 76-29 against Duncan Hill, Colin Beaman then won the next over Pete Maddon 60-29. Wem captain Josh Whittall got his team on the board beating Cameron Wildblood 64-22, before Greg Edwards gave Mike Jones little chance 75-4.
Beaconsfield C 2, Meole Brace A 2
A good result for the C team after losing the first two frames. Tom Hancher outplayed Martin Lewis 61-27 before Ross Corfield had a 35 in his 65-40 success over Steve Farmer. Ashley Lewis then began the comeback 66-54 against Ross Turner, and Jon Hedger levelled the scores by beating Kelvin Li 62-48.
Meole Brace F 1, Beaconsfield B 4
The first frame went to Andy Baron 74-53 on the blue against Andy Sparkes. Both players had chances in the next but it was Dave Berry who pulled away from yours truly to win 66-23. Mike Beasley was in inspired form with a maximum attempt in the third; Beasley finishing dead straight on his tenth black proving the stumbling block. But a very exciting break to watch with a few unbelievable shots pulled out to remain on blacks! With that contribution of 80 he went on to beat Steve Switonski 96-8. Simon Richards took the last playing Andy Bowers 61-28.
Preston Brockhurst A 0, Harlescott A 4
This full house keeps Harlescott nine points clear at the top. Pip Higgins was the first victim as Callum Wraight dominated their frame 64-16. A very close and high scoring second saw Craig Crossley get over the line 64-54 playing Glyn Buckley. A break of 24 helped Ade Rowe beat Adrian Trowsdale 81-29, then Billy Lanham took the last from Arn Mulligan 47-28.
DIVISION TWO
Meole Brace H 3, Condover B 1
Neil Thomas set the hosts on their way winning 71-38 against Bill Duckett. Jordan Phillips took the next 60-35 playing Vince Little. The third also went to Meole when Steve Memmott beat Terry Burgess 55-37, but Vic Ingram stopped the rot by winning a close last 60-53 from Paul Meredith.
Unison F 1, Beaconsfield D 3
Alan Childs overcame Mal Edwards 61-37, then Andy Plant levelled for Unison 57-32 against Antony Downes. Roger Moore made a break of 20 during his 72-23 victory over Matty Edwards, then Shane Powell defeated Dave Thomas 61-35.
Harlescott B 3, Meole Brace D 1
Harlescott’s Ian Evans had a comfortable 55-16 win over Alan Thomas, before Alex Evans survived a tight tussle with Kev Ebrey 45-37. Dave Ferriday outpotted Alex Nuthall 60-13 before Meole’s James Stevens averted the whitewash with a very good 65-50 win against Mark Mason.
