Perfect start for the visitors as Billy Lanham overwhelmed Rhys Williams 98-11 with a break of 33. Mike Brezwyn then consolidated 89-28 against Syd Longland. In a tight third Condover’s Rob Bebbington did very well to defeat Adrian Rowe 62-55 before Callum Wraight wrapped up the victory by beating Dougie Williams 62-24.
Beaconsfield B (+35) 172, Meole Brace A (+5) 274
Tom Hancher never gave Rob Jones a chance to settle, knocking in a 38 on the way to winning 93-6. A close second saw yours truly leading Ross Corfield until a couple of cracking pots on the colours saw Ross prevail 42-39. Simon Richards struggled but did well to score 46 against Ross Turner’s 70. Kelvin Li then started the last with a 41 break (all blacks) leaving Mike Beasley an impossible task, Kelvin winning 64-46 for Meole.
Beaconsfield A (+10) 251, Meole Brace G (+65) 232
Meole made the hosts work for this win, Mike Beer taking the opener 59-45 from Steve Adams. Mike Barnsley hit back for the hosts, beating Brian Price 68-27 (break 29). Tony Watkins continued that momentum against Adam Jones 69-35. The captains did battle at the back, Dave Davies surviving a determined Pete Price’s snooker laying on the last colours to clinch the match for Beaconsfield 59-46 in what was the tightest contest of the week.
Meole Brace F (+55) 283, Unison F (+60) 241
Andy Bowers won 68-44 playing Mal Edwards, then Dave Berry beat Gary Plant 58-50 in a close game. Andy Plant grabbed the next for Unison 68-40 at Steve Switonski’s expense before Andy Sparkes was the winner 62-19 against Dave Thomas.
Meole Brace D (+90) 212, Wem Cons A (+15) 268
The first frame saw Wem’s Duncan Hill win 58-45 over Martin Cane. Josh Whittall then had a good 28 break helping him to a 76-27 victory over Kev Ebrey. Greg Edwards outpotted Alex Nuthall 66-32 before Will Skerratt completed the task 53-18 against Mike Hughes.
Meole H (+75) 306, Beaconsfield D (+45) 254
A great win for Meole over league high-flyers Beaconsfield. Steve Memmott pushed Alan Childs all the way but Alan won 51-46. Shane Powell beat Jordan Phillips 79-47, before Meole captain Paul Meredith hit back beating Steve Jones 64-46. Nice to see the return of Antony ‘Jabber’ Downes, but it was Meole’s Mark Vaughan who took the last 74-33.
Meole Brace B (+105) 285, Meole Brace C (+50) 223
Brendan James made a fast start beating Scott Davidson 83-28. Gary Prosser levelled for the C team 43-27 against Sam Faulkner. On third Ross O’Callaghan continued his strong form to win 78-35 over Adam Law. Adam Cook then claimed the fourth for the B team 35-24 with Mike Jones conceding on the green.
Harlescott B (+40) 319, Preston Brockhurst A (+30) 192
What a start by Harlescott’s Ian Evans, with a 24 break he beat Pip Higgins 114-30. The Brock came straight back with Glyn Buckley winning 63-41 against Alex Evans. Harlescott captain Dave Ferriday then nicked a close one 50-38 from Adrain Trowsdale, before Mark Mason finished with a 74-31 victory over Alan Trowsdale.
Beaconsfield C (+20) 295, Condover B (+100) 213
Ashley Lewis made a perfect start for the hosts, with breaks of 21 and 24 in beating Bill Duckett 72-26. Martin Lewis also scored well, a 24 break aiding him to victory against Dave Francis 84-23. The closest frame of the night saw Terry Burgess just losing out to Steve Farmer 56-37. Then Jon Hedger defeated Vic Ingram 63-27.
