Hi all, I really hope you have all enjoyed another season in our league! This is a summary of how things finished, with a couple of competitions concluding this week.
First and foremost our congratulations to the division one champions, Harlescott A, who retained their title by a single point in a thrilling finish at Meole A. Harlescott went into the match knowing that only a full house would be enough, and they managed to take all four frames from runners up Meole who themselves have had another very strong season. Both teams had also enjoyed numerous bonus breaks during the campaign, with Meole earning four and Harlescott earning five extra points. Very well done to both sides!
Well done to Greg Edwards of Wem Cons A who took the most wins award, and Callum Wraight who made the highest break in the division, 75.
Commiserations to Harlescott D and Harlescott B who are the relegated teams.
In the second division, Meole Brace C topped the table and earned promotion to the first division along with runners up Beaconsfield D. Unfortunately there was an issue around the memberships of Meole B’s players. Consequently points were deducted which cost them promotion as they had been in the top spot.
Well done to Andy Bowers for earning the most wins, and Mike Beasley with the highest break in the league overall this year of 89.
Meole A are crowned champions of the Len Turford Team Knockout Cup after a convincing victory over Meole C. The Trevor Beamond Consolation Team Trophy final was extremely close, going down to the final pink before Harlescott A got the better of Unison F.
The Pairs competition was won on Monday night by Billy Lanham and Callum Wraight, with a 3-1 victory over Ross Corfield and Tom Hancher. The Doubles and Singles Plate finals take place this week as well.
At the end of March the Handicap knockout at Meole was well supported, many thanks to all who took part and special thanks to John Maddox for preparing the tables for us. Callum Wraight claimed the trophy with a 2-0 win against Ross Corfield in the best of 3 final.
The Singles semi finals were both contested at Beaconsfield on 22nd March. Mike Beasley overcame twice former champion Ade Rowe 3-1 while on the other table another twice former champion Dave Berry found top gear with breaks of 62 and 94 to overcome Tom Hancher by the same scoreline.
My grateful thanks to Dave Davies, Shane Powell and Dave Berry for their help refereeing. Also special thanks to Shane for his dedication updating the online results every week for us all! Behind the scenes Roger Davies and Mal Edwards also deserve my appreciation for their help in reaching joint committee decisions, thank you both. Lastly many thanks to my predecessor Jason Bright, who continues to be a great source of advice and support.
The league hold their presentation evening this Saturday 13th April in the snooker room at Meole Bowling Club, with the Singles final commencing at 6.30pm. Mike Beasley who has been in sparkling form this season is up against Dave Berry in a mouth watering best of 7 frames clash. The final will be followed by the presentation of all trophies and then a buffet. Hope to see as many of you as possible there!
