New Season

Hi all, a quick update about the start of the new season and a couple of bits from the AGM to share with you as well…

Matches get underway on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th September. The fixtures should be online soon (thanks to Jason for his help with this using the software) and I’ll also get paper ones onto all club noticeboards as soon as possible.

I’m sorry to report that we have lost 3 teams this year, hopefully not permanently. These are Unison A in division one, Meole E and Harlescott C from division two. Therefore we now have 9 teams in each division. The good news is that we welcome a brand new Meole B side to the league.

Many thanks to all who attended the league AGM on 16th August. The committee reiterated these few points:

  1. Team captains are responsible for ensuring all of their players are fully paid up members of the clubs they are playing for. Also please try to ensure you have enough players to put out a full side, playing 3 players should only be by exception.
  2. Frames not to be conceded if a bonus break is still available (ie. 3 reds in division 1, 1 red in division 2).
  3. Competitions: a) We will begin the doubles and pairs competitions earlier this season, with the aim of having them complete before the singles semi-finals. b) Within 7 days of the draw the home player is to provide 3 dates to their opponent. If this doesn’t happen the home advantage is lost and the opponent is then to provide 3 dates. c) A WhatsApp group will be created for each competition to aid communication and reporting of issues and results. d) Please consider how many competitions you are entering and balance with your availabilty to help games to be played in a timely fashion. A general expectation should be to complete one round per month of each competiton you enter.

The league are also excited to introduce Kevin Chan, who is going through his accreditation process to become a fully qualified referee. Kevin is keen to get involved refereeing cup matches and individual competition games, with players invited to offer him feedback which he can then submit as his evidence.

Hope you’ve all enjoyed the summer break and are looking forward to returning to action!
